Budget Momma: Blushing at Walgreens

Alright. So I almost didn’t post my trip to Walgreens this week.

Why?

Because it makes me blush like a school girl.

This week Walgreens has the Wet Synergy Lubricant on sale for $10 with a $10 Register Reward. Wowzers! That stuff is usually pretty expensive, and well I am married and my husband and I plan to stay that way . . . so . . . um . . . we buy lubricants . . . and . . . um . . . we use them.

Even writing that makes me blush.

I am such a weeny. I am married with two kids so obviously my husband and I have sex, but somehow writing that here just feels a little odd.

But it is a great deal – and I want you to get the best deals possible, so I apologize if all that was TMI. If you don’t need lubricants for their intended purpose, did you know there are other uses for that stuff?

  1. Fingernails. Use a bit to moisturize cuticles, or mix oil and water and soak your hands before a manicure.
  2. Lubricate Measuring Cups and Spoons. Rub on your measuring tools for easy clean-up of sticky substances like honey, grain mustards, and sugar syrups,
  3. Control hair frizz or remove peanut butter from hair. Comb a bit through dry hair to tame the frizz and flyaways on humid days or in the winter. (this makes me laugh)
  4. Free a stuck zipper.Use a cotton swab to apply to the teeth of a zipper, then gently ease the tab down.
  5. Shine stainless steel and brass. Rub a bit  on a clean rag to prevent streaks, corrosion, and tarnish.
  6. Remove makeup. Dab a bit under your eyes, on your cheeks and forehead, then wipe with a damp cloth.
  7. Remove paint from your skin. Rub onto messy hand and arms (or faces) and allow the oil to soak into the skin for five minutes, then rinse with soap and water.
  8. Fix a squeaky door. Use a rag or cotton swab to apply to the top of a problematic hinge in your home or automobile.
  9. Shoe polish. Rub down your shoes with a bit to maintain their shine.
  10. Condition leather. Rub into worn leather, such as a baseball glove, and let set for 30 minutes, then wipe away any excess.
  11. Cure diaper rash. Gently wipe on to your baby’s bottom to help with the irritation of diaper rash.

So here is what I did, and let me just say the lady at the register did give me a look and then jokingly asked if I wanted to buy some chocolate candy to go with my lubricant. ha! She must have thought they were Valentines’ presents.

$.78 Total (without tax)

—————————————

Notice that the total is 78 Cents? As long as your before tax total is more than 50 cents you are good. So I basically paid tax for all that stuff. And since the pantry is packed and I stocked up on diapers last week. Between Walgreens and a little price match trip I did early at Wal-Mart, I am done for the week.

My Walgreens Trip

My Walgreens Trip

Note: I didn’t post my price match trip to Wal-Mart because I did it yesterday and the prices expired today. But I used the Aldi ad to get

  1. 4 bags of baby carrots 49 cents each
  2. 3 bunches of broccoli 99 cents each
  3. 2 avocados 99 cents each
  4. 2 stalks of celery 99 cents each

When I got home I par-boiled the broccoli and carrots, cut, and froze them for future meals and for my kids lunch boxes. This week I will be price matching bananas, blueberries, tomatoes, and peppers. This is my go-to for getting fresh produce, good quality, and stocking up.

So, what do you think . . . can you find a use for some lubricant this week? hehe

Oops . . . almost forgot to add the spreadsheet, for those of you who like the numbers . . . Walgreens Coupon Spreadsheet 2/8/2012

:-) Chris usually doesn’t get excited about my coupon adventures . . . cough cough . . . but this week he actually volunteered to run by another Walgreens if I wanted more. LOL
